Summer in the City: Kiki’s Favorite Hotspots in Amsterdam Oost

Let’s be honest: Oost has charisma. Especially in the summer. This district has truly opened a special place in my heart. It’s the spot of my first (networking) parties, events, and unforgettable nights out. The place of enchanting hotel stays, countless strolls through Oosterpark, and some truly beautiful friendships.

So what gives Amsterdam Oost its charm? This diverse neighborhood offers something for everyone: from fine dining chic to a quick halloumi sandwich on the go at Javastraat. From trendy coffee spots to magical rooftops, Oost has it all. Perhaps it’s the blend of different cultures mixed with the new wave of young creatives. Planning a visit to Oost soon? Here are my absolute must-visit spots…

1. Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park

One night in this 5-star hotel feels like a week’s vacation. And anyone who’s ever stayed at a Pillows hotel knows this secret. I’ve never felt so recharged so quickly. This prestigious hotel (a former university building from 1908) is situated in a stunning location right in the middle of Oosterpark. The rooms are light, serene, and elegant. And oh, those beds—you’ll never want to leave. Except for…

2. …breakfast at Brasserie Spring!

Starting your day in the Japandi-style interior of Spring is a visual treat in itself. With large windows and a view of the park, you’ll instantly get a burst of positive energy to start your day fresh. Recommendations: the crispy toast with salmon and avocado, the buttermilk pancakes (out of this world!), and the French toast with fresh fruit. You can already tell: this is going to be your new breakfast spot. After eating, you can head straight for a nice walk through Oosterpark.

3. Coffee? YUSU!

This is one of those places that instantly inspires you. YUSU Amsterdam is a fresh, urban coffee shop with a beautifully bright interior. They serve their own roasted coffee, but you’re also in the right place for matcha drinks and a slice of homemade cake. This one’s a gem.

4. Healthy lunch? Spirit!

For years, this has been one of my favorite spots in Oost. Spirit is an organic buffet restaurant where everything is made with so much love. And you can taste it. You can create your own plate and choose from over 50 veggie (and vegan) dishes, including the most delicious tempeh salad, melanzane, olives, and dips—you name it. At the checkout, they weigh your plate, and you pay based on the grams. I love this concept.

5. Rooftop bar Fits’z on the Roof

Want to raise a toast with a view? Fits’z on the Roof is where you want to be for drinks. It instantly gives your day a touch of Manhattan vibes. The cocktail shakers serve pure art, the bites are insanely delicious, and on a summer day, you can enjoy the most beautiful sunset colors…

6. Troef

Located in a former workshop on Schollenbrugstraat, this cozy restaurant with a French atmosphere took me by surprise—what a great addition to the city! Definitely reserve a spot at the bar because that Chef’s Table experience with a view of the open kitchen is the best. Start with a glass of bubbly as an aperitif, and make sure to order the oyster beurre blanc. This is something you want to experience.

7. Restaurant VanOost

Got something special to celebrate? Then this is a gastronomic gem. Dining out is the most fun when it’s an Experience with a capital E, and that’s undoubtedly what you get here. Go for the 6-course menu by Chef Floris van Straalen and be taken on a culinary journey that will tantalize all your taste buds. One masterpiece after another is served right before your eyes. Truly Michelin-worthy...
